W.J. (Jack) Wilson

Jack Wilson is best known for his efforts preparing Eye Liner, champion two-year-old and winner of the AJC Champagne Stakes. He astutely managed her juvenile year to win her first nine races (Australian record) with weights up to 10st.12lbs. or 69kg. Although he never had a large team, 10 to 12 maximum, Jack always seemed to have a good horse. Acting as private trainer for the Kruger brothers of Lyndhurst Stud, he prepared a number of top class gallopers including Eye Shadow, Bright Shadow and English Statesman.

His best wins included AJC Champagne Stakes (Eye Liner), Queensland Oaks (Eye Shadow, Bright Shadow), Delaney Quality (Eye Liner), Doomben Newmarket (Eye Shadow), Auction Handicap (Eye Shadow), McDougall Stakes (Eye Shadow, Eye Liner), QTC Lightning (Eye Liner), Grange Plate (Eye Shadow, Eye Liner), Nolan Stakes (English Statesman), Summer Cup (English Statesman), Stand Handicap (English Statesman), Exhibition Handicap (Bright Shadow), Albion Stakes (Guydem), Piccaninny Stakes (Eye Shadow), Bladwin Stakes (Bright Shadow) and Hall Stakes (Eye Liner).
