Ted Tanwan was a big race rider from the 1930s to 1940s, he had a great strike rate in all races but was highly regarded in staying events. Regarded as an outstanding judge of pace, Tanwan made several trips south where he rode big race winners. His big wins included the VRC Newmarket (Regular Bachelor), VATC Futurity Stakes (Regular Bachelor), Doomben 10,000 (Lough Neagh), AJC Rawson Stakes (Lough Neagh), AJC Chipping Norton Stakes (Lough Neagh), Brisbane Cup (Rivali), QTC Derby (Lough Neagh, Waikare, Autobuz), QTC Sires' (Brown Paddy), AJC All Aged Stakes (Regular Bachelor), AJC Plate (Lough Neagh), Queensland Cup (Soft Step), QTC St Leger (Pamboona), QTC Guineas (Lough Neagh, Autobuz, Brownfelt), QTC Epsom (Regular Bachelor) and May Stakes (St Valeroy).
