Peter Morgan was a champion lightweight jockey who died in tragic circumstances while trying to save his pet ponies during a flood on February 21, 1953. Morgan drowned while trying to swim Schultz's canal at Toombul. His friend John Carew, later one of Australia's top swimming mentors, led the search for Morgan. However, he should aso be remembered for his riding career which, like many of his era, was hampered by WWII. His best wins included: Doomben Cup (Repshot), Brisbane Cup (Sicarda), Stradbroke (King Merlin and Hedui), QTC Derby (Te Tanaq), McDougall Stakes (Arabia Princess, Venidis), Tattersall's Cup (Repshot) and Moreton Handicap (Jean Buzzard).
