The first Brisbane owner to appoint a stable rider (Billy Hill) he also is well remembered for his successful plunges. His top galloper Leneffe landed a good sized plunge when she won the 1922 Stradbroke which was one of many coups for Ryan and trainer Jack Booth. His horse Lord Vindex won the first ever QTC Sires' Produce while his other notable horses included the top stayer Earl Kitchener, Golden Sunset, Monash Valley, Boy Syce, Chyrso, Sheila R. and Symposium.
