Mary Dixon is quite famous in the racing circles of north Queensland. The Dixon family have been an integral part of the Oak Park Race Club for a large part of the century and for 28 years Mary was secretary of the Oak Park Race Club.
Her life has been dedicated to the thoroughbred racing industry. Mary would drive countless miles to meetings all over north Queensland in her pursuit to ensure the Oak Park Race Club was around for another 100 years. She instigated changes that would be locked in steel and built to endure another century of racing.
The annual Oak Park race meeting is the social lynch pin of a small grazing community, spread over many thousands of square miles of far north Queensland.
