Laurie Bricknell

Originally from Tasmania he settled on the Gold Coast in the early 1970s and became one of the state's biggest ever bookmakers. For nearly 30 years he was the king of the ring at the Gold Coast at a time it was considered one of the strongest in Australia. He had a short stint in Brisbane in the late 1990s but retired after a couple of years. Bricknell, like many bookies, was also a successful owner with his best horse probably the Gold Nugget winner Venom.
