Kelso Wood was a former jockey who trained in Sydney for many years until returning to Brisbane in the 1980s. His best horse was the 1993 Doomben 10,000
winner Unequalled but he had a string of good horses for owners such as Peter Whitehead and David Devine. He had shocking luck when his horse Prince Regent lost the 1988 Magic Millions on protest and also had stable star Muirfield Village (a later Group 1 winner) sent to Bart Cummings. But Wood bounced back to win hundreds of races as a trainer.
His best wins include the Doomben 10,000 (Unequalled), Southern Cross Classic (Prince Regent), Ascot Handicap (Unequalled [2]), Exhibition Handicap (Sea Breeze), Tattersall's Mile (Sea Breeze), Ipswich Cup (Awesome Warrior), Tommy Smith Slipper (Prince Regent), Defence Force Cup (Sea Breeze), Coca Cola Stakes (Swiftly Roman), Surround Stakes (Storm Scene), Marist Ashgrove Cup (Unequalled), QTC Claret Stakes (Prince Celeste), Runaway Bay Stakes (Lord Aaron), Oaks Club Stakes (Unique Momento), Ramornie Handicap (High Classic [2]) and Doomben Roses (Queenstown Kate).
