John Wallace took out his trainers permit at age 21 in 1967 and had immediate success with the sprinter Court Rush who won 32 races. Court Rush ran second in the Hopeful Stakes and then won the feature Sapling Stakes. It was the first of an estimated 1200 winners for Wallace who is one of a handful of Queensland trainers to have a Melbourne Cup placegetter in Oompala.
