John Stone

An outstanding trainer of the early 1900s, John Stone had a great combination with his son John, who was a great jockey. Originally from outback NSW, Stone decided there were more opportunities for him in Brisbane where he set up at Ascot. He was a noted trainer of stayers.

His best horses included Orville (Brisbane Cup), Line Gun (Stradbroke Handicap), Darelong (Stradbroke Handicap), Satisfaire (Stradbroke Handicap), Storm King (Stradbroke Handicap), Garuda (QTC Derby), Joyance (QTC Derby), Maritoria (QTC Derby), Yabba (Royal Stakes, Sandgate Handicap), Dundonald (Brisbane Cup, QTC St Leger, Moreton Handicap), Royal Ned (Summer Cup) and Kildare (Moreton Handicap).
