John Presnell was one of the dominant owners of the mid to late 1960s and into the 1970s, he and his family had a marked impact on Australian breeding. He raced four top class horses in Brisbane and all went on to make their mark on the breeding industry. His best horse was the start two-year-old Maybe Lad who as a sire got the champion mare Maybe Mahal. Mr Presnell also raced Kaoru Star whose progeny at stud included the sensational galloper Luskin Star. Karou Star's broodmares went on to produce hundreds of winners. Another of the Presnell horses, Osmunda, was a top sire and got the flying two-year-old Black Shoes while yet another in Scotian went on to sire the VRC Oaks winner Scomeld. The Presnells had many other good horses with Roselda and Take Leave probably the best.
