A flamboyant owner who breezed on to the Brisbane racing scene in the late 1970s when he bought the smart filly Scomeld form the Kruger brothers. She went on to win the Wakeful Stakes-VRC Oaks double for him. Needham had many other winners including Tan Chief, Our Horizon, All Rainbows and My Marilyn.
