Jim Standfield

Jim Standfield was a top class lightweight jockey whose career was cut short by a fall during a barrier trial in October 1958. Standfield later was a trail blazer for jockeys by successfully suing the BATC for causing the fall. Many believe Standfield was just reaching his peak when his career was ended.

His best wins included the QTC Oaks (Urgona), Queensland Cup (Urgona), QTC Exhibition Handicap (Gulf Boy), Hall Stakes (Gulf Boy), QTC Ascot Handicap (Right Way), QTC Metropolitan (Jungle Law), TTC Weetwood (Berry Belle), QTC Toorak Handicap (Grand Topic), BTC Summer Cup (Book Link), Tattersall's Cup (Cool Gent), Doomben Stakes (Malt Maid), QTC Suburban Stakes (Navleigh), BTC O'Mara Stakes (Neptunist), Carnival Handicap (Rin Tin, Regal Dignity), Hopeful Stakes (Ruperion, Toshah, Tobermory Bay), McDougall Stakes (Hieroglyph), Darling Downs Breeders' Stakes (Thurlow), Albion Park 2000 (Torquar) and Sapling Stakes (Toshah).
