Jim Douglas won the Brisbane premiership at least three times including 1934/35, 1943/44 and 1948/49. A giant of a man who scaled 108kg, Douglas actually began his racing life as a jockey at Blackall in central Queensland. He came to Brisbane to ride cycles but made his mark as a trainer. Among his best horses were Merlin (Stradbroke Handicap), King Seremond (Moreton Handicap), Noel Soldat (Brisbane Handicap) and Windarra (Eagle Farm Stakes).
