It is a great pity Wilson's efforts would be virtually unknown outside of north Queensland. He rode about 5000 winners and was still riding when aged well into his 60s. He won 25 consecutive premierships in Cairns and won more than 40 feature races in north Queensland. Wilson died in 1997 aged 76.
