George Boland is one of the few Queensland trainers to have had two Melbourne Cup runners – Galleon King and Contere. He also had a favourite in a Golden Slipper with Tod Maid. He was an innovator and was also one of the first to train for big number of syndicate horses. Boland was also famous for winning a bravery award during a siege.
His best horses included Galleon King (Brisbane Cup, Carnival Handicap), Tod Maid (STC Silver Slipper, McDougall Stakes), Highcelo (Weetwood Handicap), Contere (Queensland Cup, Frazer Handicap, QTC Metropolitan), Taon (McDougall Stakes), Todmaster (QTC Sapling Stakes), Kusawara (Claret Stakes) and Princess Doon (QTC Metropolitan).
