Gary holds the record for riding Australia's longest priced (250-1) Group 1 winner with Abaridy in the 1986 Caulfield Guineas. He was forced out of the saddle when he lost an eye in a fall on Ipswich Cup day 2000. He had ridden nearly 1400 winners. Doughty now his helps his wife trainer Kelly (Blacker) with their team on the Gold Coast.
