Fred Marsland

Fred Marsland was a lightweight jockey who rarely reached the headlines but did win two of Brisbane's big four the Brisbane Cup and Stradbroke Handicap. He rode about 500 winners during his career and was the stable rider for trainer George Boland. He later made a name for himself making racing gear, a business he finally sold after 25 years of work in the mid 2000s. His best wins included Stradbroke (Lucky Cloud), Brisbane Cup (Galleon King), Queensland Cup (Lavengro), BTC Summer Cup (Lavengro), BTC Invitation Stakes (Silk Hat), Mc Dougall Stakes (Taon), Sapling Stakes (Todmaster), QTC Juvenile Stakes (Dimity), Picanniny Stakes (Taon), Canning Downs Stakes (Bon Derci), Matchem Handicap (Dalwood Rock), ITC Spring Cup (Bravani), Albion Park Midweek Cup (Lavengro), Risdon Stakes (Natural Silk), Cinderella Stakes (Orient Jewel), Carnival Handicap (Direct Line), Torrington Stakes (Blush D'Or).
