Chris Munce

Chris Munce was born in northern NSW but is claimed as a Queenslander after serving his apprenticeship with Eric Kirwan at Hendra. He was an outstanding apprentice winning the Magic Millions as an 18-year-old and riding more than 300 winners. Munce won the Brisbane jockeys' premiership and also showed he was a great judge of pace by winning three Brisbane Cups in the 1990s. He was at the top of his game when winning the 1998 Melbourne Cup. Munce had a fruitful stint in Sydney before an ill fated move to Hong Kong where he was jailed in a tips scandal. After serving 20 months in jail he returned to race riding and a stream of winners followed. At the end of 2009 he had ridden 40 Group 1 winners. His best wins include:
