A former champion schoolboy rugby union player who was king of the Brisbane ring for 30 years from the 1960s to the 2000s. Ogilvie went from catching the bus to the races where he field in the old St Leger to holding millions of dollars each race day. An old style bookie he liked to take on the favourites and despite some setbacks - such as the Divide and Rule plunges - usually finished well in front. He was also well known in the sports world. Ogilvie and another bookmaker Doug James were the co-managers of the champion boxer Hector Thompson who twice fought for world championships. Ogilvie had his share of good horses as an owner including the top mare Bassie's Prize.
