Bill Stanley, a Brisbane businessman and his wife Ev had top class horses for more than 40 years. They bought many tried horses from New Zealand with the best being Rajah Sahib who won the Cox Plate, Stradbroke Handicap, AJC Doncaster and Caulfield Guineas. His galloper Cyron dead heated in an Australian Cup and won five other Group races while Mr Cromwell won the QTC Derby-Grand Prix double. The Stanleys had many other good horses including Native Son, Bunkers, Hommed and Too Many Guns. They had an unusual double on the last day of the old Albion Park racetrack. Bill owned Hommed who won early in the day and Ev owned Lire News (a top class "creeker") who won the last ever race at the famous sand track.
