Won six Albion Park races including the Albion 2000 on three occasions. He won the QTC Toorak Handicap (twice) and the QTC City Handicap. But Atkins believes his best run was a fifth in Persian Lyric’s 1961 Stradbroke Handicap. Persian Lyric and Sumarco were together at the tail of the field on the home turn but Persian Lyric went right along the fence while Sumarco came down the outside of the track. "Had his jockey stayed where he was he would have got Persian Lyric’s run," Atkins often mused. Sumarco raced until he was 13 around bush tracks winning the Gympie Diggers Cup and Dalby Newmarket.
