Raced 1960s
The peoples champion for almost all of the 1960s he had 119 starts and rarely put in a poor effort. While he never won a Group 1 race he was always around the place finishing second in the 1963 Stradbroke and third in the 1962 QTC Derby. He won features such as the Summer Cup, Doomben Stakes, Albion Park 2000, Ipswich Cup, Tattersall’s President’s Cup, Doomben Cup, Autumn Stakes (twice), ITC Shorts and Ross Stakes. His best known wins were two victories in the Doomben International when ridden both times by the great English jockey Lester Piggott. In fact the 1969 International was his last race win. However, he carried huge weights to win and was often the get out horse for punters. Prunda never raced interstate.
