Maybe Lad

Maybe Lad was a super two-year-old who wasn't far off the mighty Eye Liner as the best two-year-old seen in Brisbane. In a strange twist he and Eye Liner raced in the same season 1964/65 and have set a benchmark that has never been matched. Trained by Neil Strong, he won nine races as a two-year-old including the feature Hopeful Stakes, Sapling Stakes, Lonergan Stakes, Ahern Stakes and QTC Sires' Produce. He met Eye Liner only once and beat her in the Ahern Stakes. Maybe Lad won with 10.12 (69kgs) as a two-year-old. At three he won the O'Mara Stakes, Doomben Dollars, Queensland Guineas treble but then won only one more race - an Eagle Farm Flying - in his remaining 25 starts. Maybe Lad was later a top sire with his best horse being the great mare Maybe Mahal.
