Makata gave champion jockey Mick Dittman his first Group winner when he took the 1970 Ipswich Cup in runaway style. He also won the Exhibition Handicap, QTC Metropolitan and Moreton Handicap. In his Moreton Handicap he relegated another grey horse - the great Gunsynd - into fourth place.
