Raced 1960s
The best horse owned by real estate king Alfred Grant who spent millions on broodmares and stallions with the dream of building a racing empire. Unfortunately, his dream collapsed several years later but through no fault of Intrepid Clipper. She won the 1968 McDougall Stakes and then became the first filly in 21 years to take the Queensland Derby in 1969. Intrepid Clipper won two more open company races and gave champion jockey Mick Dittman one of his only three placings in the Stradbroke when she was a close third in 1971. She was also another champion jockey Larry Olsen’s first Group 1 winner when she took the Derby which was unusual because all three placegetters were fillies.
