Rated by the great trainer Jim Atkins as the best of his sprinter-miler horses Dalrello possessed a tremendous finish. It was most evident when he swamped the leaders to win the 1975 AJC Doncaster Handicap. He still had it two years later when he came from last at 200 metres to win the QTC Lightning over 1000 metres 
at his last race win. Atkins believes at his top Dalrello was among the best weight for age milers Australia has seen. He won the weight for age AJC All Aged Stakes twice and also won the Claret Stakes (now the T.J. Smith Classic), QTC Guineas, Sapphire Bracelet, Tattersall's President's Handicap, Appollo Stakes, George Ryder Quality Craven Plate and Koomeela Stakes at the 1400m-2000m range. He was tried as a stayer as a three-year-old and was second in the 1974 QTC Grand Prix and QTC Derby. He even raced in that year's Brisbane Cup but was later kept to shorter distances. Dalrello was retired to stud but died serving a mare.
