Won his first race, an Eagle Farm maiden, on the same day as the later Caulfield Cup winner Basha Fleika in 1951. Almost all of Carioca’s racing was in Sydney where he developed a great affinity with champion jockey Billy Cook. They combined to win the AJC Villiers, AJC Summer Cup, AJC Chipping Norton Stakes (twice), AJC Sydney Cup, STC Theo Marks Quality, AJC Metropolitan, AJC Liverpool Cup, and STC Railway Quality. Carioca did return "home" to win the QTC Bribie Handicap when he humped 10st3lbs.
