One of the few regrets of trainer Jim Atkins career was that Buon Giorno could not take her place in the 1972 Doomben Cup. In the lead up to the Cup she had won the Labor Day Cup and Tattersall’s Cup in great style and was ruling favourite for Doomben. But she was injured and never raced again. As a three-year-old Buon Giorno had run second to the champion mare Mode in the QTC Oaks.
