Tough little mare who showed all the versatility of her sire Smokey Eyes breed. She holds some unusual places in racing history. She won two-year-old races on consecutive days at the Eagle Farm Christmas meeting in 1966. Then in 1968 she won the QTC Oaks with apprentice Jim Andrews in the saddle. It was the first time in the modern era a 7llbs (3 kgs) claiming apprentice had won a Group 1 race. After her trainer Jack Wilson died Bright Shadow was taken over by Alby Pratt who won nine races with her including the Tattersall’s Cup, Exhibition Handicap and STC Tancred Stakes (now the BMW Stakes). Bright Shadow is also remembered for her weight carrying feats winning open company staying races with up to 9stone7lbs (60kgs).
