Best remembered as the first Queensland horse to win the Caulfield Cup where he landed a massive 50-1 in to 8-1 plunge. There are several versions of the Ben Bolt story but it appears he was bought from Toowoomba to race in Bowen, north Queensland. He won a string of races under big weights before taking two races at Mackay in such great fashion it was decided to take him south. Ben Bolt was ridden from Bowen to Mackay and loaded on a ship to go south. After his Caulfield Cup run he was unplaced in the Melbourne Cup. Ben Bolt then went to Sydney where he won a major handicap at Randwick. He later raced in India.
