History: Records indicate that horse racing was conducted in the Mt. Perry district from early times, at Drummers Creek and at or near the site of the present racecourse. Records show that a meeting was conducted on 1 January 1872. Liquor booths were operated by the town’s publicans and as a result of the success of this occasion regular meetings were planned for the future. The present racecourse was established prior to 1904 and the existing grandstand (with some recent modifications) was constructed in that year.
Record books held by Mt. Perry Race Club (minute books and race results books) provide some history of racing from 1906 until the present. Mt. Perry Race Club will celebrate its 130th Anniversary on 4 May 2002.
